Jade Plant
I went shopping with Jennifer yesterday. She wanted to buy a Jade Plant for her balcony and while she was looking at the large ones, I found a tiny little one! It was so cute! So, even though I swore off trying to keep a houseplant alive 3 years ago, I decided to buy it anyway. My history with plants is not a good one. I've never been able to keep one alive for longer than a month or so. I mentioned this to Jennifer in front of my tiny little Jade friend. I swear the plant became a paler shade of green than it had been before we were half way to the register to check out. Then, while we were looking at iPod accessories, the plant tried to commit suicide by jumping out of my cart. Honestly! It must have thought it would be easier than the slow death it would receive at my hands. It hit the floor and fell completely out of it's pot. I really do have a warped sense of humor so I thought this was hysterically funny. Jennifer gets her sense of humor from me, so after we both stopped laughing, she picked the poor little thing up and stuffed it back in it's pot and put it in the bottom of the cart so it wouldn't fall out again. I told her it would be more humane to leave it at the store, but she told me they are supposed to be easy to grow and that she's certain I can do this. She's going to remind me to water it occasionally and I'm to take it to work with me and put it so I can see it regularly so I don't forget about it. I put it in the cup holder of Jen's car for the ride home. I'm happy to report that the plant survived the night, though it has been twice attacked by my dog, who seems to think I need help killing the thing, which I assuredly do not! I am quite capable of murdering anything green with no assistance what-so-ever! A few minutes ago, Xzara picked up the whole plant, pot and all, and was carrying it around in her mouth. I yelled "Drop It" and, being the obedient dog she is, she did. The pitiful little plant hit the floor, the dirt flew everywhere and my crazy puppy then thought it would be a great idea to play Keep Away with the green stuff. Once I rescued the Jade from the Hell Hound I gently tucked it back in the pot with what little dirt was left and gave it a tiny bit of water. I moved it to the Kitchen window (out of the dog's reach) but I don't have much hope for it's survival.
